News Bulletin >> December 2004

You can watch, read, or download information about almost anything these days.
It pays, though, to discern between useful knowledge and that which merely clutters your life
and takes up time that you'd rather spend on more profitable pursuits.

PRESIDENT'S COMMUNIQUE

My Dear Fellow Members,

December, is the time for looking at what happened during the calender year.

Year 2004 was very vibrant & positive, with the turnaround in the economy, stock markets, an above average monsoon and increasing opportunities for our members.

Networking is becoming the mantra for success, in line with that, the theme for the year and the conference is coined.

We are grateful to Shri. Bharat Goenka, Managing Director, M/s. Tally Solutions P Ltd, who has a canvas for professional opportunities to our members. The discussions we had with him has no doubt, left us with a sense of optimism and euphoria. He has a vision for upscaling the income curve of our members through innovative tie up which will enable us to render professional services to our existing clients, a la BPO.

His prompt assurance and comforting gesture to fully support our 17th Annual Conference was a very pleasant experience worth cherishing.

Value Added Tax is a practice opportunity for our members. More about it, we will understand during our 17th Annual Conference.

A preview of what is in store during the Conference is made out by the Conference Chairman in his Overview.

The delegate brochure is printed as part of this Conference Special Bulletin, it is my personal request seeking your support in terms of your attendance to the conference as a delegate and partake in its success.

The major events which took place in the year 2004 at the Association were, the Seminar on New Generation Audit Techniques, 16th State Level Conference, Endowment Lecture, Sports meet, Change of crew during the Annual General Meeting on 31st July, Two very successful seminars on Tax Deduction at Source, Service Tax during September & November and the celebration of the 47th KSCAA Day on 7th December.

New Year 2005, is dawning very promisingly with the 17th Annual Conference slated on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd January, Chain Seminars on Value Added Tax during February - March, Residential course tentatively to Singapore, Malaysia and / or Thailand during May, Endowment lecture during June and laying down of office by this committee on 30th July.

We thank Shri. T.K. Jayaraman, Member Technical, CESTAT, Bangalore for his address and releasing the book “Service Tax Made Simple” authored by Shri. Madhukar N. Hiregange and Shri. T. R. Rajesh Kumar during the Service Tax Seminar.

We acknowledge our gratitude to Shri. Madhukar N. Hiregange whose constant co-ordination and assistance ensured that the Seminar on “Service Tax - Legal, Practical and Planning perspectives” was a success with more than 200 delegates. The review of the feed back form from delegates revealed that the Speakers Shri. K.S. Ravishankar, Shri. V. Raghuraman, Shri. Madhukar N. Hiregange and Shri. V. Sridharan were lavishly praised for their address and replies to queries.

We will be failing in our duty if we do not thank all the Speakers, Authors, Delegates and all those who supported the seminar on service tax directly or indirectly, since no success is possible without the untiring and dedicated efforts of a group of persons.

The Association was honoured when Hon'ble Shri. N. Venkatachala, Lokayukta of Karnataka State and Former Judge of Supreme Court of India, consented and addressed as chief guest and honoured the Past Presidents and Past Secretaries, during the 47th KSCAA day celebrations on Tuesday the 7th December 2004.

We were moved to receive and see Mrs. M.R. Rangarathnam being honoured for all the dedicated services rendered by the Past President and Founder Secretary of the Association, Late Shri. M.R. Rangarathnam.

7th December, was punctuated with felicitations, release of a booklet on KSCAA, heart warming music by Shri. Shimoga Subbanna & Party and a sumptuous dinner. On a working day evening to have around 500 persons attending the KSCAA day celebrations vindicated the committee's decision of having a family nite.

The countdown has begun for conference, with bated breath we wait, anticipating your support.

Wishing each one of you and your family a happy, healthy and satisfying Calender Year 2005.

P.R. Suresh
President
